Respectfully acknowledging this territory to recognise the enduring presence of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada, including the Metis and Inuit. We acknowledge that we live, work, play and love on Traditional Territories. We acknowledge the spirituality, history, culture and stewardship of the Indigenous people of this region and the land on which they have lived for 1000’s of years. Tkaronto is still home to a large Indigenous population, many of whom are residential school survivors and intergenerational family members. They have been impacted by the history and legacy of colonialism and the residential school system from across Turtle Island. We also want to acknowledge the gender based violence that this community has faced. Today the sacred land which we are situated and thrive on is the territory of the Anishnaabe, the Haudenosaunee, Chippewa, Huron-Wender and the Mississaugas of the Credits.
We are grateful to have the opportunity to work in community on this territory and are mindful of the broken covenants, and the need to strive to make things right with all our relations. It is a small gesture of our on-going commitment to forge real understanding, and a desire to develop healthy reciprocal relations. We challenge the oppressive legacies of colonialism and acknowledge we have benefitted from them.
